Thuringia expects higher price for Germany ticket
Thuringia's state government is in favor of continuing the Deutschlandsticket, but is expecting a price of over 49 euros per month in the medium term. Following the Minister Presidents' Conference, there is a clear commitment to the ticket, which has made the switch to public transport more attractive for many people, Hoff said in Berlin on Tuesday.
However, even if the remaining funds from 2023 are carried over, the current financial framework in 2024 will not be sufficient to fully cover the costs of the ticket. "There is therefore a threat of the ticket price being increased as early as 2024," explained Hoff. The hope that the federal government would give the ticket a chance at least for two years at the current price had not been fulfilled.
Thuringia expects the conference of transport ministers to propose regulations for the continuation of the ticket in good time before May 1, 2024. "This will also have an impact on the state's finances," said the Head of the State Chancellery. Thuringia sees itself as having a responsibility in this regard. The amount of the state's contribution will be discussed later.
First of all, it is important that the conditions for the continuation of the ticket have been created in the coming year - i.e. that the federal and state governments share the costs equally to the tune of three billion euros. The federal and state governments would come to an agreement on the further financing of the Deutschlandticket in 2024 - "including a mechanism for updating the ticket price, which may also include an increase", explained the Thuringian State Chancellery.
The Thuringian government advocates for maintaining the Deutschlandsticket, but anticipates a higher monthly price due to rising costs. Despite the limited budget in 2024, heavy traffic on public transport could necessitate an increase in the ticket price as early as that year.
