Thüringer HC wins top match in Dortmund
Thüringer HC's women's handball team has celebrated its fourth away win in a row in the German league. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller won the top-of-the-table game at Borussia Dortmund by a surprisingly clear margin of 33:26 (17:12) on Wednesday evening. National player Annika Lott was the best scorer with nine goals. Thanks to the better goal difference, THC moved past BVB in the table with 10:4 points and is now third.
The Thuringians started the game much better. They paralyzed BVB's flow of play with their aggressive and agile defending, while goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle also shone in the early stages, saving two seven-meter penalties. The visitors looked to finish quickly in attack and were able to rely on the outstanding Lott, who had already scored five goals and made three assists by the 13th minute (9:5).
After a timeout by Head Coach Henk Groener, BVB developed more penetration at the back and inched closer to make it 10:11 (22') before the visitors took control again and pulled 17:12 ahead by the break.
The Thuringians quickly extended their lead to 21:14 (35') in the second half. Although they only managed to score one more goal in the following eight minutes, Dortmund was not able to capitalize on that because THC remained very compact in defense. The visitors turned up the heat in attack in the final spell and deserved to win by a deserved margin.
