Forestry - Thüringenforst renovates forest roads for eight million euros
Thuringia's State Forestry Agency is investing around eight million euros in the maintenance and repair of paths in the state forest this year. "This means that around 5 percent of the state forestry agency's timber revenue will be reinvested in the trail infrastructure alone," explained Thuringia Forestry Director Volker Gebhardt on Tuesday. In total, there are around 5000 kilometers of forest roads in the state forest.
Forest roads are particularly stressed because forest owners are restoring areas where the bark beetle has caused damage. Potholes were appearing in the road surfaces, ruts and mud deposits were temporarily restricting usability for forest visitors and winter sports enthusiasts. The private and corporate forests are eligible for funding for the repairs.
