- Thunderstorms and heavy rain in Saarland: nearly 500 operations
Heavy rain and flooding: Over 500 emergency services deployed in Saarland
Following a severe thunderstorm and heavy rain, around 500 emergency services were called out in the Saarland region in the evening. The Saar-Pfalz district, Saarlouis district, and Saarbrücken metropolitan area were the most affected, according to the Interior Ministry. In the Neunkirchen district, firefighters and the Technical Relief Agency (THW) had to respond around 80 times. No injuries were reported.
Especially the large amount of rain caused significant problems in many places within a short period. Many basements were flooded, and the municipal infrastructure was partially severely damaged. There were also reports of landslides and burst pipes.
The Interior Ministry urged the public to continue monitoring the warnings from the German Weather Service (DWD) and to follow the instructions of the emergency services in case of further severe weather events.
Given the current situation, several cities in Germany, such as Saarbrücken and Saarlouis, are experiencing considerable challenges due to the heavy rain and flooding. Emergency services from Germany have been actively involved in rescuing and providing aid, as seen in the Saarland region where over 500 responders were deployed.
