Handball - ThSV Eisenach eliminated from DHB Cup against HSV Hamburg

ThSV Eisenach has missed out on the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup. The handball Bundesliga club lost 28:31 (16:14) to HSV Hamburg in the Sporthalle Hamburg on Tuesday. Hamburg's best scorers in the round of 16 were Casper Mortensen and Dani Baijens with eight goals each. Manuel Zehnder also scored eight times for Eisenach.

The opening phase began on an even keel until HSV Hamburg opened up a four-goal lead for the first time in the 14th minute. The home side was unable to hold on to this lead due to a number of technical errors. Eisenach managed to draw level at 10:10 a short time later. In this phase, the team from Hamburg did not manage to score for a whole nine minutes. The visitors were able to secure a half-time lead of 16:14 thanks to some strong saves by goalkeeper Matija Spikic.

After the break, Hamburg regained their composure and the game continued on a more even footing. ThSV then made too many technical errors in the final phase, which the team from Hamburg were able to exploit. Head Coach Misha Kaufmann tried to get the team back on track by calling two timeouts in the final ten minutes. However, the plan did not work and ThSV was eliminated from the DHB Cup with a 28:31 loss.
