The district of Main-Kinzig - Three people have been accused following an explosion at an ATM.

About six months following the detonation of an ATM in the Main-Kinzig district, the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office has indicted three individuals aged 19, 21, and 24. These men face charges of detonating an explosive device and organized theft, as announced by the authorities on a Wednesday.

Apparently, these suspects were involved in a gang that focused on such criminal acts. On November 25th, they allegedly destroyed an ATM in the municipality of Hasselroth and made off with more than €62,000. They escaped in a vehicle, and authorities arrested them shortly after as part of a massive search operation in the Aschaffenburg district. The three men are being held in pre-trial detention. The damages from the explosion amounted to more than €100,000.

In the indictment at the Juvenile Court of the Hanau Regional Court, the 21- and 24-year-olds are also charged with involvement in another ATM explosion that took place in Bad Oeynhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, in October 2023.

As indicated in the information released, there were 61 attempted and successful ATM explosions in Hessen last year, and so far this year, 11 incidents have occurred.
