If the Paralympic Games begin on Wednesday in Paris, three athletes from Saarland will join the festivities. This was revealed by the Saarland Sports Association. Included in this group are sprinter Nicole Nicoleitzik, as well as Anita Raguwaran and Boris Nicolai, who will both participate in Para-Boccia events.

This will mark Nicoleitzik's third time participating in the Paralympics, having previously taken part in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Boris Nicolai, a boccia player, will be competing for the second time, while Anita Raguwaran will be making her debut.

The Paralympics will continue until September 8. In Paris, a total of 4,400 athletes from 182 nations will engage in 22 sports, all vying for medals. Representing Germany are 65 female and 78 male athletes, along with five guides.

The Paralympic Games are patterned after the Olympic Games and take place every four years in the same city as the most recent Summer or Winter Games. This tradition has been upheld since 1960, with athletes participating in paralympic sports every four years. The term 'Paralympics' is a fusion of 'paraplegic' and 'Olympics'.

Nicoleitzik is excited to return to Paris, where she previously competed in the Paralympic Games during Rio 2016. Raguwaran, a newcomer to the Paralympic stage, cannot wait to experience the excitement and camaraderie in Paris, just like her fellow German athletes.
