Three injured in accident on A12 - temporary lockdown

After an accident, the A12 motorway in the direction of Frankfurt (Oder) between Fürstenwalde-Ost and Briesen (Oder) has been reopened, according to police reports. A spokesperson for the police stated that three people were injured in the afternoon accident - a 40-year-old man and a 7-year-old girl seriously. The section was temporarily closed after the accident.

According to the reports, the 40-year-old attempted to overtake another car and clipped it while merging back. The man's car then veered off the road and overturned multiple times, it was reported.

There were four people in the second car, according to the reports. The 42-year-old driver was lightly injured in the accident, according to the police.

The authorities are currently investigating if poor communication or issues with the traffic management system played a role in the accident, given its severity. Following the incident, there have been calls for improvements in the region's [Transport and telecommunications] infrastructure to prevent similar incidents in the future.
