Activation of the firefighting unit - Three individuals sustain harm in blaze at Brandt factory storage facility.
A blaze at a Brandt chocolate factory warehouse in Lower Bavaria left three firefighters with light injuries. The flames in Landshut were eventually extinguished, but clean-up efforts continued into the morning, as reported by a police spokesperson. The fire, which broke out in the facility's cardboard storage section, is estimated to have caused damage in the millions, according to law enforcement.
Production Pause in Landshut
The production facilities have not been damaged by the fire, a company representative stated. However, production has been halted temporarily, with a resumption date yet to be determined.
Brandt is renowned for its zwieback, but at the Landshut site, hollow chocolate figurines, along with filled and coated chocolate products, are produced. Zwieback and cracker items continue to be produced at other facilities unaffected by the incident.
As of now, no employees have been harmed, the spokesperson confirmed. Quick action was taken, and the evacuation plan was efficiently implemented.
Road Closures and Bus Detours
Upon the discovery of the fire, there were eight workers in the plant's production facilities, all of whom were safely evacuated. Residents residing within a 2-kilometer radius of the fire were advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to smoke development, the city reported. Although there's no health risk, there might be an unpleasant odor.
Traffic disruptions might also occur due to road closures, as mentioned by the police. Bus travel is being impacted, with lines 1, 3, 6, and 8 affected, the city of Landshut announced.
The fire began in a storage area spanning over 700 square meters on the second floor of a three-story building, where cardboard and plastics were kept. The origin of the fire remains a mystery, with the criminal police conducting an investigation.
The chocolate figurines and filled chocolate products, which are among the products produced in Lower Bavaria's Brandt factory in Landshut, will temporarily halt production due to the fire. Despite the fire, the production facilities in Lower Bavaria itself have not suffered any significant damage.
