Accident - Three fatalities on the A38: wrong-way driver fled from a checkpoint
The accident with three fatalities on the Autobahn 38 in the south of Saxony-Anhalt was preceded by a flight from a police checkpoint. Officers had wanted to check the later wrong-way driver in the Staßfurt area early on Friday morning, but he evaded the check, according to the Halle police station. The 57-year-old drove his car onto the A14 towards Halle, through the western Saale district to the A38, where he drove in the wrong direction.
Between the Querfurt and Eisleben junctions, his car collided with an oncoming car. The wrong-way driver died. Two women in the other car were killed. Another occupant was flown to hospital with serious injuries.
