- Three contenders for the presidency position within the Left Party in Saxony-Anhalt
For the position of state chairman of the Left Party in Saxony-Anhalt, there are currently three contenders. As per the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung", incumbent vice-chairman Alexander Sorge is contesting current state chairman Hendrik Lange. During the board election in 2022, Sorge voiced criticism towards the Left Party's leadership, claiming it needed a tactical alteration as it was lacking. To revitalize the state party, it's crucial to acknowledge mistakes, he asserted back then. Sorge, who also serves as the state association's press spokesperson, officially declared his candidacy.
By the state party conference scheduled for September 7 and 8, additional candidates might still register. Apart from Sorge and Lange, current joint-chairwoman Janina Böttger is also aiming to reclaim the party leadership role.
The Left Party's state association has been governed by co-chairpersons Janina Böttger and Hendrik Lange since 2022. During the European elections two months ago, the Left Party in Saxony-Anhalt suffered a setback, losing 9.6% of the votes and securing 4.8%.
The contender for the position, Alexander Sorge, criticized the Left Party's leadership from the left during the 2022 board election. Despite the setback in the European elections, the Left Party in Saxony-Anhalt continues to have three prominent figures vying for the state chairman position, including the current incumbent, Hendrik Lange, from the left side of the party.
