Three break-ins in fire stations in one night

Eußeheim/Karlstadt/Gemünden a. Main/Hausen b.Würzburg (dpa/lby) - Unknown persons broke into three fire stations in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart in the same night. According to initial estimates, the total damage amounted to at least 17,000 euros, as the police announced on Monday. In Eußenheim, the perpetrators stole technical fire-fighting equipment worth a low five-figure sum on Saturday night. They also left behind property damage of around 2500 euros.

In Karlstadt, too, unknown persons pried open an access door, searched the equipment shed but stole nothing. According to the police, the perpetrator or perpetrators may have been disturbed. The break-in resulted in property damage of around 2000 euros. The same method was also used to break into the fire station in Gemünden am Main on the same night. Here too, only property damage of around 1500 euros was caused and nothing was stolen. The criminal investigation department in Würzburg has started an investigation, also with regard to possible connections to the crime.

"We are also looking into possible connections with an incident in the neighboring district of Würzburg. In Hausen, an attempt was made to break open an ATM in the town hall during the same period between midday on Saturday and midday on Sunday. However, the perpetrators did not take anything," said a police spokesman on Monday. According to the police, the damage caused was estimated to be in the mid five-figure range.
