Tradition - Thousands of visitors come to the start of Spreewaldweihnacht
According to the organizers, the Spreewaldweihnacht attracted several thousand guests on the first weekend of Advent. On Saturday and Sunday, visitors were able to stroll around the Christmas market and sample tasty treats in the large Spreewald harbor in Lübbenau and then travel to the Lehde Open-Air Museum on almost 60 barges complete with woolen blankets. There, the "Bescherkind" - the Sorbian Christ Child - and the gift bringer Rumpodich - the Ruprecht - were waiting to give presents and bless the guests.
Jenny Linke, spokeswoman for the Spreewald Museum in Lübbenau, said that the Spreewald Christmas was very well attended. She put the number of guests at around 5000 on Saturday and slightly less on Sunday, because fewer tour groups came, but more individual guests. The head of the Lübbenau and surrounding area boat ferry cooperative, Steffen Franke, was also satisfied with the start and spoke of "desirable Christmas winter weather".
The campaign will be offered on the first and second weekends of Advent. The combined tickets for the boat trip and the visit to the Lehde Open-Air Museum were already fully booked. However, guests were still able to visit the museum with day tickets. There they were able to see historic farms and learn about the stories and customs of Christmas in Lusatia.
