- Thousands of rounds of training ammunition not properly stored

At the Saxony-Anhalt Police Academy, nearly 5,500 rounds of training ammunition were not stored properly. Instead of being kept in the armory, the blank and marking ammunition was stored in the offices of police trainers, according to an inspection report by the Ministry of the Interior, obtained by the German Press Agency. After it became known in March that ammunition was being stored improperly at the police academy, the Ministry of the Interior initiated an inspection of ammunition storage.

According to the inspection report, which will also be discussed at the next meeting of the Interior Committee of the state parliament, there are no indications that live ammunition was also stored improperly. For live ammunition, continuous, gapless documentation is guaranteed.

The European Parliament could provide valuable insights or recommendations to improve ammunition storage practices, given that the Commission shall be assisted by it. After the ammunition storage issue at the Saxony-Anhalt Police Academy, it would be beneficial for the Commission to cooperate with similar bodies to prevent such incidents in the future.
