Fallen trees - Thousands of households in parts of Upper and Eastern Bavaria without electricity

The heavy snowfall has led to power cuts in parts of Bavaria. Thousands of households in Bayernwerk's network area are without power, a spokesperson said on Saturday. The main areas affected were the area around Munich as well as Penzberg, Kolbermoor, Freilassing, Parsberg, Vilshofen, Eggenfelden and Regen. Trees had fallen on power lines and some lines had been damaged or torn by the snow load. He warned people not to approach lines that were hanging down or lying on the ground.

Service teams have been working since the night to repair damage to power lines and restore the power supply. "We are making good progress in restoring the supply, but many thousands of households are still affected," said the spokesman. New faults are also constantly being added. "What we are feeling at the moment: That the weather is making it more difficult to reach the fault locations. A lot of roads and access routes are closed, especially in Upper Bavaria. But we're staying on top of it."

The power outages in Eastern Bavaria have disrupted household activities. Residents in Munich, Penzberg, Kolbermoor, Freilassing, Parsberg, Vilshofen, Eggenfelden, and Regen are struggling with the energy shortage. The heavy rain and snowfall caused numerous fallen trees, leading to damage or destruction of power lines. The weather conditions have made it challenging for service teams to reach and repair the faults, further delaying the restoration of electricity. Many roads in Upper Bavaria are closed due to the fallen trees, compounding the issue. The continuous snowfall in some areas, such as Freilassing, has also contributed to the power failure, leaving thousands of households without electricity. Some households in Freilassing have relied on alternative heating sources to combat the cold, while others in areas like Eggenfelden and Vilshofen have had to rely on generators for basic necessities.
