Carnival procession - Thousands of costume wearers in Aschau parade
Colorful Spectacle in Chiemgau: Around 5,000 people in costumes celebrated their Gaufest in Aschau in the Chiemgau on Sunday. Minister-President Markus Soeder (CSU) and patron Ludwig Freiherr von Cramer-Klett rode in honorary carriages. In the parade at the foot of the Kampenwand near Schloss Hohenaschau, more than 40 floats and 20 music bands took part.
The Trachtenverein "D ́Griabinga Hohenaschau" is, according to the Tourist Information Aschau, the third oldest costume association in Bavaria and is celebrating its 140-year anniversary this year. With over 540 adult members and 60 children and adolescents, the Trachtenverein counts itself among the largest Trachtenvereins in the Free State, according to the information.
A special feature of the men's costumes is the so-called Griabinga Peacock Hat with Rooster Feather. It was introduced for the Hohenaschauer Trachtenverein as an unmistakable feature by Theodor Freiherr von Cramer-Klett, according to the tourist guides, around 120 years ago.
