Pilgrimage - Thousands of believers make a pilgrimage from Osnabrück to Telgte
Multiple Thousands of pilgrims have run from Osnabrück to Telgte, many spectators greeted the Faithful at the roadside. The pilgrimage ended with two mass services in the early morning in Telgte and the return journey towards Osnabrück. In the evening, the believers were expected in Georgsmarienhütte.
"The procession started at 8:00 am in the sunshine, the weather was beautiful for pilgrimage", said Martin Schomaker, Dean of the St.-Johann-Parish in Osnabrück. A first mass had already taken place at 5:30 am, a second one at 6:45 am. Around 2,500 pilgrims had set off on the return journey. "Everything went well, there were no incidents", reported Schomaker. Many spectators had also turned up in Telgte for the departure.
The pilgrims had set off from the Osnabrück city center at 3:00 am on Saturday. Two pilgrim masses had already been celebrated in two Catholic churches beforehand. In the afternoon, around 5,000 believers had arrived in Telgte. Bishop Felix Genn of Münster and the former Bishop of Osnabrück, Franz-Josef Bode, welcomed the pilgrims.
There was also a bike pilgrimage for those who were not good walkers but still wanted to join the pilgrimage. According to Schomaker, many pilgrims participated in this as well.
The more than 45 kilometer long pilgrimage from Osnabrück to Telgte took place this year for the 172nd time. The motto was "Walk with us". The pilgrimage procession has been taking place annually since 1852. It had to be cancelled in the years 2020 and 2021 due to the Corona pandemic.
Osnabrück Pilgrimage to Telgte
