Under the motto "Together instead of against each other", thousands of people gathered at the Sachsenring to learn about road safety. The start and finish line of the racetrack attracted visitors to the 24th Saxon Road Safety Day with information on driver assistance systems, connected driving, and accident simulations. "We were lucky with the weather again. The number of visitors is in the thousands," said Sebastian Brückner from the Zwickau district, who organized the event for the Ministry of Transport.

Last year's accident statistics underscored the importance of investing in road safety, said Transport Minister Martin Dulig. "Especially for the protection of the more vulnerable road users, more needs to be done than before," emphasized the SPD politician. In 2023, 188 people died in traffic accidents in the Free State, significantly more than in 2022. Nearly a third (35 percent) of the later victims were pedestrians or cyclists.

"As long as people actively participate in road traffic, errors and misconduct can never be completely ruled out. To prevent these from having serious consequences for road users, we must design our roads and traffic systems to be safe," explained Dulig.

The numerous interactive activities on the Sachsenring were particularly popular. Visitors could choose to take a test drive in an electric or hydrogen car, or a cargo bike. There was also a skills course with e-bikes and pedelecs. People could also join the winter service, waste vehicles, or historic buses.

At the 24th Saxon Road Safety Day, the start and finish line of the renowned HQM Sachsenring racetrack drew a large crowd. Participants had the opportunity to test drive electric and hydrogen vehicles, as well as cargo bikes, on the Sachsenring.

Despite the numerous interactive activities and safety measures, Transport Minister Martin Dulig stressed the importance of continuously improving road safety due to the high number of traffic accidents and fatalities in Saxony, including at the HQM Sachsenring.
