Third truck smuggling in a week in Saxony-Anhalt
Six smuggled foreigners have been found in a sealed truck trailer at the Plötzetal rest area on the Autobahn 14. The Magdeburg Federal Police announced on Sunday that this was the third smuggling operation of this kind to become known in the state within a week. According to the report, the six men drew attention to themselves at the rest area on Friday with knocking noises and voices. The driver, who had taken over the vehicle in Bulgaria and driven to Germany via Romania, Hungary and the Czech Republic, informed the police.
The smuggled men from Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and Bangladesh, aged between 25 and 36, did not have valid papers for legal residence in Germany. They were taken to the central contact point for asylum seekers. The driver, who said he knew nothing about the smuggling, was allowed to leave the police station after being questioned.
On November 11, two Somali nationals were discovered on the back of a truck at the Kabelsketal rest area on the A14 highway. On November 13, a 23-year-old Afghan got out of a truck in Nachterstedt while it was being unloaded.
The increase in crime, with the third truck smuggling incident in Saxony-Anhalt within a week, raises concerns about migration controls. The ongoing migration, as evidenced by the discovery of foreigners without valid papers, highlights the need for robust border security measures.
