Third-ranked Aust strives to lead AfD delegation in the European Parliament.

The Thuringia state politician and former Social Democrat, Aust, has become the face of the party, leading their campaign and television appearances leading up to the European election. The delegation, estimated to be made up of 16 members, will hold a meeting on Monday to elect a new leader for the European Parliament. Christine Anderson, the previous delegation head, only managed to secure fourth place in the list.

It's believed that the AfD had a successful performance in the European election. It's currently uncertain which group they'll be joining in the newly formed EU Parliament, following their removal from the ID group in May.
