Third division team Halle progresses in the regional cup
Third division soccer team Hallescher FC advanced to the quarter-finals of the Saxony-Anhalt state cup on Saturday with a 1:0 (0:0) win against SG Union Sandersdorf. VfL Halle 96, on the other hand, needed a penalty shoot-out to reach the next round with a 7:6 (2:2/1:1) victory. The cup finalists from the previous season, FC Einheit Wernigerode, needed extra time at Blau-Weiß Zorbau to secure a 4-1 (1-1/1-1) victory. Stahl Thale only needed regulation time to progress in their 4-1 (2-1) win at Osterweddingen.
Germania Halberstadt impressed with a 5-0 (2-0) win at SV Dessau on Saturday. 1. FC Lok Stendal won 3:2 (2:1) at SV Arnstedt and SSC Weißenfels 3:2 (1:0) at TSV Rot-Weiß Zerbst. 1. FC Bitterfeld-Wolfen prevailed 5:4 (1:1/0:0) at Grün-Weiß Piesteritz.
In the national soccer scene, Hallescher FC is making strides in the Saxony-Anhalt National Cup, having secured a spot in the semi-finals. Next up for them is a potential match against another third division team that also advances deep in the National Cup.
