Football: Latest Match Updates and News - Thierry Henry suggests including Leipzig striker Ibrahima Konaté in the Olympic team.
RB Leipzig's defender Castello Lukeba could be attending the Olympics. The French national team's manager Thierry Henry has chosen the defender for the preliminary team for the event happening from July 24 to August 10. Out of the 25 players who will join a training camp in Clairefontaine from June 16, 18 of them will make the final squad.
Earlier, Lukeba aspired for a European Championship nomination, but he didn't make the cut in the tough French selection process. The defender, who was recruited from Lyon, locked down a position in Leipzig during his rookie season, playing in 32 games with 24 starts. Lukeba made his national team debut in October 2023.
The Olympics will pit France against Colombia, Canada, and New Zealand in Group A. Under-23 teams are allowed, but three players can be older.
