To avoid getting stuck in traffic, it is worth avoiding these roads in Germany. Many drivers are likely to head out on Friday or Saturday to visit their relatives, go skiing, or to the city center for last-minute Christmas shopping.

According to ADAC, the most traffic jams are expected on Friday during the day and on Saturday morning. On Sunday, December 24 (Christmas Eve), and on Monday, December 25 (Christmas), the roads will be mostly quiet.

On Tuesday, December 26 (Boxing Day), temporary traffic jams are expected on the return journey in the second half of the day. The traffic intensity, however, will not be as high as at the beginning of the Christmas weekend.
In good weather, there is a certain risk of traffic jams on approaches to local recreational areas. Therefore, it is advisable to be more attentive.

- A1 Osnabrück in the direction of Bremen between Neuenkirchen/Fürstenau and Holdorf from Saturday, December 16, 20:00, to Sunday, December 17, 10:00.
- A7 Würzburg in the direction of Fulda between Bad Kissingen/Oberthulba and Bad Brückenau/Wildflecken from Saturday, December 16, 22:00, to Sunday, December 17, 6:00.
- A7 Ulm in the direction of Füssen/Roite between Berkheim and Memmingen-South from Saturday, December 16, 22:00, to Monday, December 18, 5:30, from 22:00 to 5:30.
- A7 Flensburg towards Hamburg between Owschlag and Rendsburg/Büdelsdorf on Sunday, December 17, from 9:00 to 12:00.
- A42 Dortmund – Kamp-Lintfort in both directions between Kreuz-Essen-Nord and Bottrop-Süd from Monday, December 11, to Saturday, December 16, 20:00.

- A44 Kassel – Dortmund in both directions between Kassel-South Triangle and Kassel-West intersection until January 30, 2024.
- A45 Hagen – Gießen in both directions between Lüdenscheid-Nord and Lüdenscheid until further notice.
On the Brenner and Gotthard routes, there is always a risk of traffic jams. On the Austrian Tauern highway between Golling and Pfarrwerfen, the Ofenauer and Hiefler tunnels, as well as the Verdener tunnel network, are being reconstructed. For this purpose, tunnel sections are closed alternately in each direction.
Traffic is being directed along open lanes in one lane of traffic against oncoming traffic. Drivers will need to plan significantly more travel time.
