These films are coming to theaters
The deprived life of an ordinary worker, a child's adventure in Africa and an unusual beauty contest - these are the new movies of the week.
"A whole life" - Portrait of an ordinary man
Robert Seethaler's portrait of a worker's life is less than 200 pages long - director Hans Steinbichler has now filmed the story of orphan Andreas Egger against the backdrop of a mighty mountain panorama.
In the drama "A Whole Life", three actors (Ivan Gustafik, Stefan Gorski and August Zirner) play Egger in the various phases of his life. It is the story of an everyman who is relentlessly exposed to contemporary history.

"Thabo": detective story full of serious themes
The children's adventure "Thabo" is based on the book of the same name by Kirsten Boie. At the center of the story is an eleven-year-old (Litlhonolofatso Litlhakanyane) who would like to be a detective. When a poacher shoots a rhino near his village in southern Africa, he sets off with Emma (Ava Skuratowski) and other children in search of clues.
Surrounded by lions, giraffes, elephants and snakes, the young detectives finally find the criminal. The film touches on all kinds of serious topics, including poaching, poverty and AIDS - but without focusing on them. The German Film and Media Rating Board (FBW) awarded "Thabo" the rating "particularly valuable".

"Miss Holocaust Survivor": Unusual beauty contest
In his documentary "Miss Holocaust Survivor", director Radek Wegrzyn focuses on Israeli Shoah survivors. Twelve women of advanced age take part in an unusual beauty contest in Haifa, which is primarily about inner beauty. But it also celebrates the lives and survival of women who survived concentration camps, ghettos or a life in hiding as girls or young women.
Will they manage to turn their rivalries and traumas into something positive for one evening? Will they feel beautiful - inside and out? Nevertheless, the competition is not without controversy - the film also deals with the controversy of whether a beauty contest is the right way to honor Holocaust survivors.
