Ukraine soldiers receive support - These cats have a mission in the trenches
The next winter at the front has begun. But the Ukrainian soldiers are not only struggling with fierce fighting, the increasing cold and extreme hunger - now they are also plagued by a veritable plague. And cats (yes, cats!) suddenly have a mission in the war.
► One of the videos shared shows a Ukrainian soldier and two large snakes. The man jokes that the wife and mother-in-law of a comrade have come to visit. In another video, a soldier complains about several mice hiding under his mattress. When another soldier opens his bag, mice scurry in all directions.
But the rodents are not just there - they are becoming a serious problem! They disturb the soldiers' sleep, nip them in their sleeping bags and eat whatever they can get between their teeth - even the troops' equipment. Soldier Jewhen Ijewlew reported on the situation on Ukrainian television: "When you wake up, you always catch two or three mice that have crawled into your sleeping bag. It's not particularly pleasant when they're chewing on your finger."
Even more dramatic for the combat capability of the Ukrainian troops: The mice nibble on helmets and destroy important communication cables. A bar in Kiev is even asking for donations for the fight against the rodent plague, writing in an Instagram post: "It's a strange but absolutely necessary fundraiser. Mice and rats are creatures of God. They are beautiful, clever, at least not stupid, but insidious. And if it weren't for the damn Russians, we wouldn't have to kill the rodents either. But they are everywhere. They destroy everything: food, medicines, clothes, leather goods, cables."
The bar wants to use the donations collected to find traps and have them brought directly to the front line to get rid of the pesky rodents. In the meantime, many Ukrainian soldiers have also found another solution.
They are cats that are used directly at the front - sometimes taken to war by the soldiers themselves. The cute cat Syrskyj, for example, became a star on social media.
At least one of the velvet paws has even been honored by the soldiers. Shaybik the cat was awarded the Order for Volunteers on the following grounds: "For the help he has given to our brigade and the military." Shaybik was also made a .
