These are the best bonus accounts
Everyone has a Giro account, but there are special kinds called Multi-Value Accounts. They offer additional perks such as discounts, insurances, and other extras. Whether the services justify the higher fees is shown in a current test.
Accounts with added value services do not convince on a broad scale. While the conditions and branch services mostly yield good results, the scope of added value services varies greatly, as a recent study by the German Institute for Service Quality shows.
Extras do not always justify the price
In the travel sector, there are the most benefits for customers and clients: An overseas travel health insurance and refunds for travel bookings are included in almost all accounts - a travel booking service is even included in five out of eight account products.
Extras in the leisure and discounts sector are often insignificant: For example, discounts for cinema, retail, or gastronomy are rarely offered.
Critically examine the price-performance ratio
The basic fees are higher than those of classical Giro accounts and vary between 9.00 and 17.95 Euro per month among the tested products. The relatively high fixed costs, however, do not result in uniformly better conditions.
For example, interest rates: The interest rates for approved overdrafts as well as for unauthorized overdrafts are high - in both cases up to 15.17 percent annually. Markus Hamer, managing director of the German Institute for Service Quality, sums up: "Not every Multi-Value Account delivers what its appealing name promises. Interested parties should check if the included added value services are personally useful and justify the price."
The Top 3 Ranking
The Hamburger Sparkasse is the test winner with the overall rating "good". The account "HaspaJoker premium" scores with the overall best range of added value services, especially in the travel sector or also with numerous discounts. In terms of conditions and branch services, the Haspa also ranks first. The payment transactions are free of charge and, for example, the lowest comparison interest rates for unauthorized overdrafts are charged.
The Nassauische Sparkasse takes second place with the Multi-Value Account "Naspa Giro Komfort" (overall rating: "good"). With nine Euro, the lowest monthly basic fee is charged here. The added value service is impressive with the largest range of discounts. In addition, the Sparkasse offers its Multi-Value Account customers and clients, for example, a ticket insurance.
The BW-Bank ranks third ("satisfactory"). The Premium Account "Giro extend gold" convinces above all in terms of conditions. For example, all costs for payment transactions are included in the basic fee. In terms of added value services, the travel sector, for example, with included insurances and a 7 percent refund for bookings, scores well.
