Current Climate Conditions: - The weather up north undergoes fluctuations and gets significantly colder.
If you've already stowed away your shorts and summer garments, you'll have to hold out a bit longer: The weather in the northern areas of Germany isn't quite ready for the sun and warmth just yet. Instead, a low pressure system is bringing cooler sea air, which is spreading over Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, according to meteorologist Michael Bauditz from the German Weather Service (DWD). He spoke in Hamburg on Monday.
"The weather will become more varied in the coming days," Bauditz said, "And this will also be evident in terms of temperature." The temperature in the north will range from 18 to 21 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, and 15 to 20 degrees on Wednesday. "It's coldest near the North Sea, and it gets warmer the further inland you go." In particular, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern residents won't see much sun – "the sun is quite scarce in the area around the North Sea."
Checking the rain forecast, you'll see light rainfall moving across Schleswig-Holstein on Tuesday. "This will strengthen into Wednesday night, with possible heavy showers and sometimes thunderstorms."
Bauditz can't guarantee a quick switch to warmer, sunnier weather. "This arrangement won't change much, as we're still under the influence of a low pressure system."

Despite the chilly weather affecting Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, warmer temperatures are expected in Germany's interior. Michael Bauditz, a meteorologist from the German Weather Service, suggests that citizens in Schleswig-Holstein should prepare for light rain and possible heavy showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Even as Sylt, a popular summer destination in Northern Germany, enjoys some warmer temperatures, the weather in Germany as a whole is still influenced by the low pressure system, making a swift switch to warmer, sunnier conditions uncertain. During the summer months, many Germans might be seen wearing colorful summer dresses, but with the current weather, Michael Bauditz would recommend packing a versatile wardrobe for travels around Germany, including the coastal regions of Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
