- The Viennese TV hostess doesn't like New Year's Eve parties

Sarah Wiener (61), in her own words, is not a fan of fireworks displays like New Year's Eve. "I must confess, I'm against New Year's Eve firecrackers and unprofessional fireworks that are loud, noisy, and sometimes unsafe," she said in Berlin. "I've never been one to set them off, even as a child, because they scared me and I didn't understand the point."

The former EU politician is sitting on the creative jury of the Pyronale fireworks spectacle this year, which is set to take place on August 30 and 31 at the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Six teams of "international top pyrotechnicians" have been announced, who will present their pyrotechnic art and compete for the winning title. The teams are said to come from Finland, Canada, the Netherlands, Romania, Poland, and the UK.

Highly professional, creative fireworks can stimulate imagination and aesthetics and are the opposite of unprofessional noise, Wiener explained her role in the jury. Moreover, it can bring people together.
