- The trial of actor Ramadan continues
Actor Kida Khodr Ramadan is contesting another prison sentence at the Berlin Regional Court and hoping for probation. The appeal trial, concerning a verdict from the Charlottenburg District Court about four months ago, will continue on Wednesday (13:00). Unlike at the start of the trial, Ramadan, 47, must now attend the hearing in person, as ordered by the court. The chamber wants to form a personal impression of the defendant, the presiding judge explained in mid-July. Initially, Ramadan was represented by his lawyer. The actor has appealed against a conviction of ten months' imprisonment for deliberately driving without a license in four cases, aiming solely for suspension of sentence on probation, as his lawyer Kai Walden explained.
In a 2022 case, this was not successful. After probation was revoked, Ramadan has been in Berlin's open prison since Monday, according to the prosecution. The 47-year-old has complied with the summons to begin serving his sentence, despite previously opposing its enforcement. His lawyer attributes this to a procedural error.
The 47-year-old actor is challenging his prison sentence at the Berlin Regional Court, hoping for probation, which was previously denied by The Court of Justice in a different case. If the verdict from the Charlottenburg District Court is upheld, Ramadan may have to serve his ten-month sentence in full, as opposed to having it suspended on probation.
