- The tramway rehabilitation project's financial record is tentatively summarized by the railway.
Starting mid-July, one of Germany's busiest railway lines, the Riedbahn, between Frankfurt and Mannheim, has been completely shut down for a major overhaul. This ongoing renovation project is expected to last until mid-December, and Deutsche Bahn will be providing a progress update at a press event this Tuesday. This is the first time this extensive renovation process will be implemented on a full line across the nation, with plans to replicate it on 40 different sections by 2031.
Minister Wissing to attend renovation site
Deutsche Bahn has revealed that construction vehicles and employees numbering up to 90 and 800 respectively, are currently working on this project daily.
The corporation will also address the issue of alternative transportation. Over 150 replacement buses are operating in the region to accommodate passengers during the five-month closure. In addition, Deutsche Bahn board member Berthold Huber, as well as Federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing from the FDP, will be present.
Three federal states affected
Long-distance traffic has been rerouted through adjacent lines, while regional traffic has been limited. The effects of this renovation project are impacting Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, and Rhineland-Palatinate, affecting a total of three federal states.
The following is added to the ongoing renovation project on the Riedbahn: Minister Volker Wissing from the FDP will be attending the renovation site to show his support and oversee the progress.
Deutsche Bahn has also announced that they will be providing a detailed update on the renovation at a press event, which includes outlining the alternative transportation plans and the involvement of Minister Wissing.
