Cars moving on streets or highways. - The traffic on A7 and in the Elbe tunnel has been restored.
The A7 motorway in Hamburg reopened as scheduled after a total shutdown. The Elbtunnel, where vehicles had been unable to pass since Sunday night, became accessible again around 2:00 am on Monday. The construction area responsible for this closure, located between Stellingen and Heimfeld in the Hannover direction, as well as the section between Heimfeld and Volkspark in the Flensburg direction, has been completely disassembled.
The primary objective of this construction work was the destruction of a bicycle and pedestrian bridge. This bridge initially impeded the expansion of the A7 to eight lanes. The overall closure of the A7 lasted for over 50 hours, but law enforcement authorities reported no significant traffic complications on Sunday. The Elbe bridges, frequently used as a detour by drivers during this period, experienced temporary congestion over the weekend. The Autobahn GmbH Nord had initially planned to open the highway by 5:00 am on Monday.

The full closure of the Elbe tunnel over the weekend caused traffic to divert to alternative routes, such as the A7 bridges in Hamburg. Despite the disruption, Heimfeld authorities were able to complete construction work on the A7, allowing for the reopening of the Elbe tunnel and the A7 motorway. With the Elbe tunnel and A7 now open, the usual weekend traffic in Hamburg and Hanover should return to normal. Although the construction was completed ahead of schedule, some drivers may still experience minor delays due to the recent congestion.
