- The theft count of automobiles in Saarland remains relatively stable.

Auto burglars hit Saarland 86 times in 2023, making off with two more insured vehicles compared to 2022. These statistics come from the German Insurance Association (GDV). The overall financial damage came to 1.3 million euros, a rise of 300,000 euros from the preceding year.

Approximately 14,800 euros were typically reimbursed per stolen vehicle, representing a 33% jump from the year prior. This surge is largely attributed to higher-priced vehicles becoming the preferred targets.

The probability of auto theft in Saarland is generally low, with an average of two instances per 10,000 insured vehicles. Across the nation, this number is four. In total, 14,585 insured automobiles were pilfered in Germany in 2023, a 20% uptick from 2022. The total financial loss exceeded 310 million euros. Berlin witnessed the highest risk of auto theft.

Criminals show a strong preference for luxury and high-end SUVs. If a vehicle is fully or partially insured, the insurer usually covers the losses by compensating the car's value at the time of theft.
