Team of frigate "Hessen" commended for Red Sea duty. The frigate and its crew are the initial full-fledged contingent of the German Military to receive this deployment recognition, as stated by the Navy Communication and Media Office.

The German Military Deployment Medal is bestowed upon military personnel and civilian staff who have taken part in a unique operation or recognized mission for a minimum of 30 days.

Following over eight weeks of military actions in the Red Sea, the frigate returned to its base port of Wilhelmshaven in May. The 143-meter-long vessel had safely escorted 27 cargo ships through the operational zone encompassing Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The vessel successfully repelled several drone and projectile assaults by the Yemeni Houthi rebels.

The commendation for the Red Sea duty marks the first time a full-fledged contingent from the German Military, specifically the frigate "Hessen", has received such recognition. Due to their exceptional service, the crew members could potentially be eligible for the German Military Deployment Medal.
