The suspected mastermind of the UK riots is in Cyprus
Far-right activist Robinson, whose civilian name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is accused of orchestrating and inciting recent riots in several British cities from Cyprus. Robinson founded the English Defense League group 15 years ago, claiming to fight against the "threat of Islam".
Robinson is reportedly in Cyprus to avoid a court date in the UK. An AFP video journalist filmed him this week by a swimming pool at a five-star hotel in Ayia Napa on the southern coast of Cyprus. The Cypriot police stated they believe Robinson remains on the island.
In the UK, there have been far-right riots in several cities in recent days, with more expected in the coming days. The background is a knife attack in the coastal town of Southport near Liverpool, where three children were killed and ten others injured on July 29. The attacker entered a building where a children's holiday dance course was taking place.
The attack shook Britain. False information quickly circulated online, claiming the attacker was a Muslim asylum seeker. However, the police stated that the suspected attacker is a 17-year-old born in Wales. British media reports suggest the man's parents are from Rwanda.
Despite being accused of inciting riots in several British cities, Robinson chose to stay in Cyprus to avoid a court date in the United Kingdom. The recent far-right riots in the UK, including the one following the tragic knife attack in Southport, have been widely covered by the media.
