- The Super Cup manager of Magdeburg was criticized for the prematurely set schedule.
Bennet Wiegert, the head coach of SC Magdeburg, voiced his criticism towards the scheduling of the Supercup clash against Füchse Berlin, which was held merely three weeks after the Olympic Games. "It was obvious that this contest was too soon for both squads. I understand the challenges of the Bundesliga, but I can't hide my dissatisfaction," Wiegert expressed, following their 30:32 loss against the runner-ups.
Nearly a dozen players from the triumphant teams were part of the Summer Games. "They're still carrying those memories in their heads," Wiegert commented. "We need to grant them some breathing room, but we don't have the luxury of deciding the timing."
Jaron Siewert, the coach of Füchse Berlin, shared similar thoughts, boasting two Olympic gold medalists, Mathias Gidsel and Lasse Andersson, on his team. "Winning an Olympic gold is an emotional pinnacle in a career that requires time to absorb. It's not something you can accomplish in a fortnight. It's challenging to return to the daily routine and rediscover motivation," Siewert remarked. Gidsel concurred, "It's genuinely tough to bounce back from the Olympics. The energy just isn't there, and the mind is barely at half capacity."
The Handball league schedule did not consider the physical and mental exhaustion of the players from the triumphant Olympic teams. Despite this, SC Magdeburg and Füchse Berlin, both featuring prominent Olympic medalists, had to face each other in the Handball league's Supercup.
The Olympic gold medalists from both teams, including Mathias Gidsel from Füchse Berlin, were still coping with the emotional highs and demands of the Olympic Games, potentially impacting their performance in the Handball league's Handball league.
