Lawlessness - The state government is pushing for tougher regulations on firearms.

The government in Lower Saxony is pushing for tighter gun regulations. This includes restrictions on carrying knives in public, as the state's administration headquarters in Hanover revealed on Tuesday. As a result, they decided to propose a motion for the upcoming Bundesrat meeting. Through a Bundesrat initiative, they hope to encourage the federal government to speed up the process of amending the gun laws. Previously, the "Braunschweiger Zeitung" had reported on this.

In a statement, Interior Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) stated, "Current crime statistics demonstrate that more changes need to be made to gun laws, particularly in order to reduce knife-related crimes. It is utterly baffling to me that it is still possible to legally handle certain spring knives today."

The state government of Lower Saxony is urging the federal government to execute the proposed tightening of gun laws, as announced by Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). Faeser revealed an internal draft for the gun law amendment in January of the previous year following the New Year's Eve riots and the disclosed plans of a "Reichsbürger" group for a coup.
