Social matters - The SPD proposes to hire family caregivers using government funds.
The Thuringian SPD group is suggesting that the state take on the hiring of caregivers and pay them on a monthly basis. This idea will be discussed by the Social Democrats in a state parliament session at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the plan, full-time caregivers would receive up to 1,400 euros net each month. By working for a state-owned company, these caregivers would be both financially and socially insured, according to SPD health politician Cornelia Klisch. "During the forthcoming model project, which is set to take place during the next legislative period, we aim to hire up to 500 caregivers," she explained.
The state of Thuringy will hold a new election for its parliament on September 1st. The prospect of who will have a majority in the newly elected parliament is currently unknown.
