- The significant majority of the Cologne-Aachen rail line has been restored following a truck collision.
Two days post a truck taking an unfortunate dive off a bridge and onto the rails, the significant railway line between Cologne and Aachen at the accident site has mostly resumed operations. As per German Railways, both S-Bahn and regional train tracks are functional, along with a two-way long-distance track. Though repairs are in progress on the remaining long-distance track, minor long-distance traffic disruptions may be anticipated, a railway representative confirmed.
The incident took place on a Friday afternoon when a truck veered off a bridge and landed on the tracks at a station in Kerpen, situated west of Cologne. Remarkably, no trains sustained damages due to the sudden truck crash. This crucial railway line also serves as a busier route for ICE and Eurostar trains.
Previously, rail company reports mentioned that the severely damaged truck was successfully extracted from the rails during the wee hours of Saturday night. The restriction on the use of S-Bahn tracks was lifted by Saturday afternoon, enabling both regional and long-distance trains to utilize them.
