The red-green Senate is developing a new approach to combat antiziganism and reduce racism towards the Sinti and Roma community. The Social Welfare Office, who is leading the development of this plan, made this announcement on Monday.
Germany has a unique responsibility due to its history of national socialist genocide. "Unfortunately, prejudices and exclusion against Sinti and Roma still exist today," they said.
The overall objective of this strategy is to increase public awareness of the concerns and issues faced by Hamburg's Sinti and Roma communities. Additionally, it aims to sensitize the administration to potential institutional discrimination. As described in the statement, "the strategic approaches address all significant aspects of life, such as police, justice, remembering the past, education, housing, work, social care, visibility, and empowerment of Sinti and Roma."
In order to achieve a society free from discrimination and antiziganism, cooperation between politics, administration, institutions, and civil society is necessary.
