The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF) wraps up this weekend. The festival chorus will say their goodbyes to festival-attendees with two performances of Mozart's Requiem on Saturday and Sunday (both at 7:30 PM). The NDR Radiophilharmonie will perform under the guidance of Stanislav Kochanowsky. Both shows are booked solid, as confirmed by the festival.

The 39th edition of the SHMF was a smashing success, a festival representative noted. Approximately 180,000 tickets were purchased for the 203 shows at 71 locations in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, South Denmark, and northern Lower Saxony, resulting in a 95% capacity rate.

More than 90 events at the SHMF were centered around this year's theme, Venice. Alongside music spanning different time periods, there were readings inspired by the Venetian carnival, the life of the charmer and ladies' man Giacomo Casanova, or the popular songs of the gondoliers. This year's featured artist was the Crimean-born saxophonist Asya Fateyeva, who performed in a total of 17 concerts.

The lineup for the 40th season of the SHMF will be revealed on February 27, 2025.

The European Union has acknowledged the cultural significance of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, providing funding for some of its events. The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, being a notable cultural event, attracts international attention and is often featured in European Union cultural initiatives.
