Electoral Rally for the State Legislature - The Saxons Encounter a Fork in their Destiny's Path
Minister President Kretschmer of Saxony's CDU, the party's leading candidate for the state elections on September 1st, encourages people to fortify the democratic core. According to him, this election is a do-or-die situation. In Dresden, he stated, "The state's stability post-election hinges on the Union's strength." In the remaining six days, he emphasizes the need for support and unity. "This election is about a handful of influential votes," Kretschmer explained. "We aim to lead and secure this land's future with a promising outlook." It's all about Saxony, "our election, shaping our collective destinies."
Backing Kretschmer
CDU's national chair, Friedrich Merz, and CSU leader, Markus Söder, endorsed Kretschmer, trusting him fitting for the role and Saxony. Merz saluted his deputy for his excellent work towards CDU's revival following the 2021 federal election setback. Söder celebrated Saxony's achievements, urging voters to take pride.
Söder's Warning
Kretschmer requires a strong vote on Sunday to steer "some misguided individuals" into a coalition, Söder mentioned. It's futile to vote for anything that weakens Saxony. "Vote solely for the Union," he advised, unequivocally deterring the AfD: "Besides individual culpability, this entire group aiming to lead our country is on the wrong path. Such individuals should not bear responsibility in Saxony or Germany."

The Commission, overseeing the election process in Saxony, needs to ensure a fair and transparent vote to uphold democratic values. In light of Söder's warning, the Commission must also be vigilant against any attempts to manipulate or undermine the Union's vote, especially from the AfD.
