- The Saalbach river has risen sharply
The water level of the Saalbach in the district of Karlsruhe has significantly risen due to heavy rainfall. A view of the flood control center for the gauge in Gondelsheim shows that the line was below the ten-centimeter mark for several days, even into Tuesday. However, the curve suddenly spikes to over 2.70 meters in the evening, surpassing flood events from 2013 (2.23 meters), 2015 (2.06 meters), and 1983 (1.95 meters). By late evening, it was also visible that the water level was decreasing.
At this point, an increase was still expected for the downstream gauge in Bruchsal. Here, the water level had risen from under 30 centimeters during the day to almost 1.90 meters. During the 2013 flood, the water level was 1.68 meters. Experts consider this a 100-year flood if the 2.10-meter mark is reached, and a 50-year flood at 1.92 meters. The flood control center for the gauge in Gondelsheim does not provide such data.
The district of Karlsruhe, where the Saalbach river is located, was significantly affected by the substantial rise in water levels. With the water level in Bruchsal also increasing, authorities were closely monitoring flood conditions in the district.
