- The rise in individuals relying on social aid for care support has seen an uptick.
In the region of Schleswig-Holstein, there's seen a rise in individuals reliant on long-term care and receiving social aid. As per Statistics North's end-of-year report for 2023, a total of 10,970 individuals benefited from such care assistance, marking an 8% increase compared to the preceding year.
Out of these beneficiaries, a staggering 62% were women, while a whopping 80% were senior citizens aged 65 or above. The report further revealed that an impressive 86% of these individuals were solely cared for in dedicated facilities.
Long-term care assistance is a type of social aid offered to individuals who require ongoing care. Statistical data indicates that this aid is provided to those who are financially unable to cover their own care expenses and lack adequate support from alternative sources, such as health insurance.
Social policy plays a critical role in addressing the needs of individuals relying on long-term care and social aid. The rising numbers of beneficiaries in Schleswig-Holstein underscores the importance of ongoing policy reviews and funding adjustments.
