Second Division of the German Football League - The result of unmet objectives: Financial strain persists
Because SV Sandhausen missed out on being directly promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, the club's managing director Volker Piegsa isn't ruling out staff cuts. "It might be unavoidable," Piegsa told the German Press Agency. With relegation the previous season, the club would lose ten million euros. "We could likely play another year in the 3rd league without any issues. However, that doesn't mean playing in the 3rd league is unimportant or doesn't matter at all. We still need to act with more foresight," said Piegsa.
Now, it's crucial to find a balance when it comes to signing new players. "I'd still say we're exploring the same avenues we've looked at in the past," he added. Completely dismantling the sports department doesn't seem like a smart move, as it would likely lead to the same financial struggles in a year's time.
Despite lofty aspirations, SV Sandhausen finished the season with two coaching changes and a disappointing 8th place. For the upcoming season, Sreto Ristic was brought in as coach.
