- The Restriction Lift: Normal Operations Resume Following Incident on A38
Following a major incident involving a dangerous cargo truck, the shutdown of the A38 highway close to Weißenfels, Saxony-Anhalt, has been withdrawn. As per the Federal Motorway Authority's announcement, the route heading towards Leipzig was reopened following noon's cleanup operations. However, the path towards Göttingen remains closed due to extensive damage. Repairs are projected to carry on until mid or late in the subsequent week.
The incident was a direct consequence of an earlier fatal collision.
Last Friday night, a truck collided into a traffic congestion. In that spot, a truck carrying gas canisters was stationary on the Saale bridge near Schkortleben's village. The truck ignited, numerous gas canisters detonated, and some were launched onto neighboring farmlands.
As per reports, the farmlands went up in flames. Nearly 150 firefighters were dispatched. The traffic jam emerged as a result, as on Thursday evening, the driver of a compact transport vehicle was first hit by a truck while putting up a warning triangle. The man expired at the accident site.
Due to the explosion, a large area of the Saale bridge was destroyed, requiring repairs of an 'other, of a width of' considerable extent.
Subsequently, the Federal Highway Authority initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the 'fatal collision' and prevent such incidents in the future.
