Since its establishment three years ago, the Berlin refugee grievance center has handled roughly 5,300 cases. "Interest in our aid offer continually grows," remarked Maike Caiulo-Prahm, its director, on Wednesday. "The number of accommodations in Berlin keeps rising, and so does the confidence refugees have in us, given our track record."

In 2023 alone, nearly 2,000 actions for improvement or desires were brought to the grievance center. In more than half of these cases, redress was achieved. Approximately a fourth of the grievances involved the facilities in the accommodations. Other common topics included the local authorities' services, the staff in the accommodations, and the food and cleanliness there.

The Berlin refugee grievance center (BuBS) first opened its doors in spring 2021. The Johanniter foundation sponsors this office. It assists refugees in formulating and submitting their complaints against Berlin authorities.

Berlin-registered refugees, as well as refugee aid volunteers and employees, can approach the complaints center. Consultation services are regularly provided to over 100 accommodations, states the statement, in addition to fixed consultation hours in Neukölln. Complaints can also be lodged in person at the grievance center, over the phone, via email, or through an online contact form.
