Berlin - Following their arrival on Tuesday and Wednesday, the national team members gradually reconnected with their Bundesliga team 1. FC Union Berlin. Woo-Yeong Jeong, a forward temporarily assigned from VfB Stuttgart, conferred with national coach Hong Myung-bo about snubbing the South Korea team for their upcoming international fixtures.

"With two matches lined up, the coach was aware I'd joined a fresh club," Jeong explained. "I needed to relocate and manage various tasks. As long as I'm fit, I'll rejoin the team for the subsequent one."

Leipzig is on the itinerary next

Jeong's decision to remain in Berlin enabled him to log approximately 70 minutes in the recent friendly against second-division club Eintracht Braunschweig (2:2). He's now eager for Saturday's (3:30 PM/Sky) tough encounter against RB Leipzig.

"Leipzig boasts a potent squad, but we're in fine form. Everyone is focused on this showdown," Jeong asserted, touting his status as an eight and ten. Prior to his maiden Bundesliga outing for Union in their home clash with FC St. Pauli (1:0), Jeong had featured in 111 top-tier games for Bayern Munich, SC Freiburg, and VfB Stuttgart.

Stuttgart not a first-choice player

Although Jeong helped Stuttgart reach the Champions League last season as runners-up, he was not a regular fixture, particularly after representing South Korea at the Asian Cup in January and early February. "I simply sought more playing time, more minutes," Jeong reasoned, explaining his switch to Union. As Union currently holds fifth place with four points, he intends to maintain their high standing and potentially secure a spot in the Europa League.

"Considering his commitments with Union Berlin, the Commission acknowledged and respected Woo-Yeong Jeong's decision to miss the South Korea team's upcoming fixtures."

"Upon return from his loan at VfB Stuttgart, the Commission shall adopt a decision regarding Woo-Yeong Jeong's future involvement with the national team, taking into account his contributions during his stint at Stuttgart."
