Current Climate Conditions - The rain has ceased, and now the process of tidying up starts.

After numerous days of heavy rain and devastating floods, the sky over Baden-Württemberg is clearing up once again - however, restoring the damage may take some time. Residents have been busy on Tuesday, tackling the largest amount of debris in the streets, pumping out basements, and disposing of spoilt waste.

The Big Cleanup

In the communities of Rudersberg in the highly impacted Rems-Murr-District and Ebersbach in the Göppingen District, clean-up efforts are underway, as reported by city officials on Tuesday. The downpours covered the streets with mud mounds and miscellaneous belongings that had been swept away, and vehicles too were damaged by the deluge of water. In Schorndorf, two individuals perished after attempting to pump water out from their basement.

In Ebersbach, all displaced residents had returned to their homes. All kindergartens and schools that had been closed due to the dramatic incidents on Monday are now open again, mentioned a city representative. The community's stormwater management, which had established flood retention basins, has shown positive results. "We're still quite a distance from normality," she remarked.

The district administration of Göppingen also cautioned against entering flooded forest regions. The significant water masses created numerous hazards in the forest, according to the responsible forest office. The B10, which had been flooded by water masses and consequently closed at Ebersbach due to a noise barrier being pressed, was opened early on Tuesday morning.

Emergency Teams Assess the Situation

Approximately 1000 emergency teams from the German Red Cross (DRK) have been operational in Baden-Württemberg since last Friday, the DRK state association reported on Tuesday morning. The emphasis was placed on the Ostalb district and the Rems-Murr district and the district of Ludwigsburg.

Water Levels Decreasing in Most Waterways

The water levels at most watercourses in the southwest are decreasing, as per the High Water Forecast Centre. "Only at Lake Constance and the Rhine downstream from Kehl are there still rising trends," it noted in the situation report in the afternoon. Shipping, halted due to the floods for several days, could likely be resumed by Friday afternoon, according to a spokesperson. The water levels are falling more gradually than expected.

Two People Deceased in Baden-Württemberg

A man and his mother could not survive the flood. Their bodies were discovered on Monday in Schorndorf, in the Rems-Murr district. Earlier, two individuals had already perished in Bavaria; on Tuesday, the police reported a third fatality: A woman had apparently driven her car into the water on the road the previous day and was found motionless later.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier offered his gratitude to the numerous helpers in South Germany's flood-stricken regions on Tuesday for their efforts in combating the floods. "It's remarkable to behold the multitude of individuals who rise to support their fellow beings in times of their greatest need," Steinmeier said in Berlin at the commencement of the Environmental Week in the park of his official residence, Schloss Bellevue.

Train Transportation Further Hindered

Train passengers should anticipate further constraints and train cancellations. For instance, trains could not reach Munich from Stuttgart, as the German Railways announced on Tuesday. A portion of the line is inaccessible for long-distance travel: on the Stuttgart-Ulm-Augsburg-Munich line, the section between Ulm and Augsburg, on the Nuremberg-Donauwoerth-Augsburg-Munich line, the section between Donauwoerth and Augsburg, on the Munich-Memmingen-Lindau line, the section between Buchloe and Memmingen, and the entire line Ulm-Memmingen-Kempten. In addition, it was noted: "Please expect a very high passenger load on the trains on the aforementioned lines."
