- The railway station will also be converted into 20 stations.

In the course of renovating the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim, 20 train stations are also set to be rebuilt and expanded. On Thursday (10:30 AM), the railway will present the new concept in Groß-Gerau, southern Hesse. Among the planned improvements for the stations are new wayfinding systems, welcoming and well-lit underpasses, or new lighting. Some stations will receive new ramps and elevators to ensure barrier-free access. On Tuesday, Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) plans to inspect the construction work on the railway line and the replacement traffic.

The railway is implementing a new modernization concept on this route for the first time. The decades-long maintenance backlog is to be tackled in a fast-track process. The Riedbahn is the first of 41 routes that are to be comprehensively renewed by 2031. Currently, costs of 1.3 billion euros are earmarked for this section alone. According to the railway, the route between Frankfurt and Mannheim is one of the most heavily traveled corridors nationwide and is particularly prone to disruptions.

The modernization concept includes the upgrade of existing stations along the Riedbahn, with some stations set to receive new tracks for improved mobility. Visitors to the newly renovated stations will navigate with ease thanks to the installation of advanced wayfinding systems.
