According to the data from Deutsche Bahn's CEO, Richard Lutz, he opted for train rides for seven of his business journeys in the previous year. He also took flights three times. As confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Transport in response to a query posed by the Union party.

As per Deutsche Bahn's declaration, the board members generally preferred train travel for their business trips in 2023. However, they chose other modes of transport, like planes, if the circumstances didn't permit rail travel.

The reasons cited included strike actions by rail unions EVG and GDL, trips abroad, and scheduling conflicts due to important appointments either before or after the business trip, or to save on overnight stays.

Despite the challenges, Deutsche Bahn's mission to promote sustainable transportation remained evident, as train journeys still accounted for the majority of their board members' business trips. Under such circumstances, flexible alternatives like flights were sometimes necessary to accomplish the mission effectively.
